The Real Problem
When a talk falls flat, the usual fixes go after what people can see: posture, slides, filler words. Those help at the edges. The bigger problems sit underneath. The message was built for the speaker, not the audience. The expertise never got translated. The most powerful point got lost. The nerves took over when the stakes went up.
We don't just look for the problem. We dive for pearls, going beneath the surface of your material to find the gem that makes it matter. Every presentation addresses a problem, so every presentation program also builds Ps Q: recognizing the problem your audience actually cares about, naming it clearly, and responding to it.
What We Build
Turn technical detail and data into stories and meaning any audience can follow and act on.
Choose the right structure for your message and build it around its most memorable moment, for the greatest impact.
Speaking is a form of listening. Stay deeply connected to your audience and respond to what is happening in front of you.
Stay steady and credible when the stakes are high and the room is skeptical.
Answer pushback with clarity and keep the conversation moving toward a decision.
Visuals that help the audience follow your point and keep the focus on you.
Diving for Pearls
The challenge is that you rarely find it where you expect.
Sometimes it's in the first five minutes. More often it's buried under the version people have rehearsed. The timeline. The facts. The safe answers they've told a dozen times before.
The Grateful Dead had a phrase for this: diving for pearls.
They'd improvise for long stretches, not because every minute was brilliant, but because every now and then they'd stumble onto something they couldn't have planned. That's what they were chasing.
Storytelling feels the same to me.
You keep asking. You let the silence hang a little longer than is comfortable. You notice the sentence someone almost didn't say.
I was interviewing someone recently whose story, on paper, was complete. We had the facts. We had the chronology. We had all the pieces.
It still wasn't the story.
So we kept talking.
Then, almost as an aside, he mentioned one small moment. It wasn't dramatic. It wasn't polished. But it was honest. As soon as he said it, everything else suddenly made sense. That one detail gave meaning to everything that came before it.
That's the pearl.
I've also learned that it's easier to find those moments when you're not diving alone.
Sometimes you need someone across the table who hears a sentence and says, “Wait. Go back. You just said something important.”
Those are my favorite interviews.
Not because we tell a better story.
Because together, we find the one that was there all along.
